The Book Depository: the virgin buy

3 weeks ago, I decided to get some books from the much-raved-about The Book Depository and today, brown paper packaging graced my desk. The peak of the online shopping experience is definitely seeing the packages of your purchases waiting for you to rip them open.

There are so many fabulous things about The Book Depository. The first thing that grabbed me were three magical words - FREE WORLDWIDE DELIVERY! No shipping cost! Nothing! Nada! Zilch! Zero! Secondly, the prices of the books are cheaper than those in bookstores - I got The Little Prince at SGD 3.63! i don't even....! The delivery time was not that long either- I'd expected to receive the items in June - but oh what joy!

MY VIRGIN LOOT!

The Little Prince is one of the books I'd meant to read but never got around to reading (or buying/borrowing at that!). When I saw that it was selling for SGD 3.63, i was like HOMIGAH I GOTS TO GET ME THAT! and now yeay~ one off the to-read checklist.

I've yet to show the other two books to my girl and I bet she'll flip for joy because one! she loves the song "Down in Jungle" which she learnt from her childcare and two! giraffes have displaced all other animals to be her favourite animal - i suppose it might've something to do with the fact her teether was the now neglected Sophie the Giraffe.

nomads for a week

first things first, exams are over! so yeay!
but unfortunately, hubs has left us for Bintan to chaperon the Rafflesians and will only be back next Saturday.

since it's quite a bit of a hassle to commute from Punggol to Yio Chu Kang, i've decided to stay at my mum's at Ang Mo Kio til Tuesday cos my MIL has kindly offered to house us and send us to work/school all the way from Pasir Ris just so she can spend more time with her only grandchild.

this has been hubs' fourth trip away from us this year with the first being to chaperon the Rafflesian Ruggers to Hong Kong.
i hope this week will go pass very fast. meh.

on another note, we'll be having a dinner date with nurita, an old friend who's made it very big in the fashion world of Malaysia, tomorrow night. the last time we saw nuri was a couple of years back when Alisha hasn't even learnt to walk.

hmmm, maybe i'll start planning on Alisha's 2nd birthday celebration.

oh! oh!
Cinderella got her self two new pairs of shoes last week, courtesy of her beloved parents. behold!

baby, i'm sorry

Taking a short break from Quantitative Methods. The baby's asleep. I got Barney to babysit her while I mugged. I feel so guilty about the fact that we haven't spent much quality time since last week.
Hubs and I are contemplating having another baby but I'm beginning to think perhaps we should wait til I'm done with BsBz.
Can't wait for Friday. I've got lots I plan to do especially since hubs will be busy chaperoning the Rafflesians in Bintan.

mcdees is evil

i got my medical report a couple of weeks back indicating that my cholesterol level was borderline high  and i made the decision to swear off fast food forever!

and then!!! mcdees decides to have hello kitty plushies. fts man seriously. i love love love hello kitty. i cannot quite explain why i am fond of the seemingly mouthless feline but i just am. (if you watch the hello kitty cartoon, you will know that hello kitty has a mouth). in fact, i am so fond of the cat that i was one of those who queued at mcdees back then (and was 'caught' by my jc econs tutor who went all "have you done your essays" on me).

my colleague just had to taunt me with a whatsapped image of the evil marketing ploy that's gotten me all messed up. and in the evening, when hubs came to fetch me, i caved going all, "can i have my last mcdees meal?" to which he replied "but i thought you said...." to which i responded by showing him the above-mentioned pic.

kitty
i believe this picture will give you an idea on what i had for dinner tonight. sigh.
i am now dangling 'free mcdees meals' offers to my colleagues so that i can own 3 others to complete the set without compromising my health. my addiction is beyond reason.

edit.
homigod. i went to twitter. hello kitty is trending in singapore. and now i'm watching a jay chou mv because one of the tweets brought me there.

"You want me to package myself into a Hello Kitty. Well I'm going to look like I've got some problems"

seriously now.

oh, and by the way, alisha's claimed hamburglar kitty and added it to her plush parade.

maybe this is what happens to tweeple

maybe i've just rushed into this whole idea about an lj.
or maybe i've always been the messy kind who's better at writing on dribs and drabs.
or maybe happier moments are tougher to word, and well, maybe less interesting to read.

or! or! or! maybe, my mind is bogged down with the upcoming exams (a misplaced arts kid taking accounts!! le gasp!!). then maybe i should start again once i'm done with the papers.

maybe then, we'll see.

the post Mother's Day post

mumday
This marks the 2nd year I've celebrated Mother's Day. One of the things I looked forward to is her gift in the form of an artwork planned by her teachers. This year I got a colourful fridge magnet (see picture above)!

Celebrated Mother's Day a day earlier with my side of the family. Bonesteak and the works! It was a big gathering  of the families of my maternal grandmother's children at her place. Quite pleased that I've contributed to the pool of great-grandkids. It was really nice seeing them play around with each other.

It was a simpler affair with the in-laws on Sunday. Finally dined at Badoque after wanting to do so for quite some time now. The food was alright, not very spectacular but the service was fantastic. But something even more fantabulous would be the Badoque Steak.

badoquesteak
This #motherofsteak costs $19.50. If I'd known the steak would be the size of the Titanic, I wouldn't have ordered the spaghetti. Even hubs (whose stomach is a bottomless pit) could not finish it. Definitely know where to dine next time I get mad hungry.

in a nutshell

Kid A
This is Alisha - cherry queen and love of my life. Born on 22 June, 2010 at Parkway East Hospital. In the cc she goes to, she's known for her bows cos I can't seem to stop buying them and making her wear them. Alisha loves books since I've read to her since she was an infant. The first book I read was "Does A Kangaroo Have A Mother Too?" by Eric Carle. I replaced the word "mother" with "mummy" so that she would then learn how to call me mummy . Since then, she's formed the link between the different words and understood that 'Mother', 'Mama' and 'Mummy' mean the same.

**She's now able to tell what her parents' names are! Trying to get her to memorise her grandparents' names now.
edit: video here!

These are snippets of (some of)her first-s (from pictures I've previously posted on either fb or instagram):

First photo I took of her. I thought she looked quite like a pink dumpling which is why I dubbed her that then.

firstbestfriend
Little Miss Pink's first best friend is Cate Chan whom she met at her infantcare. They were quite the tag team back then.

First Birthday

The theme for her first birthday bash was 'Alisha in Onederland' inspired by 'Alice in Wonderland' . We celebrated it at Tropical Springs Condo courtesy of SIL's hubs.  In keeping with the theme, I had to stop myself from adorning her in pink like I would've wanted. Topsy-turvy birthday cake was by my ex-classmate's Cake Love Couture. I cannot quite remember who the caterer was but  I thought the food was just so-so. A lot of the props were from Spotlight and candy and all that's dandy were from Sheng Siong cept for the pink m&m's which were from Candylicious. Hubs and I a.k.a her loving parents got her the T&C necklace and pendant set for her first birthday.

firststaycationmbsalishabathtubbub
First staycation was at Marina Bay Sands. Grand room is grand! She enjoyed exploring the big area, jumping on the bed and chillaxing in the bathtub.

alishasnowcapfirsttriplocksmyeongdongsnowname
First overseas trip was to Seoul, Korea much to the delight of my hallyu-loving self. First time the both of us experienced snow.

1sttheatreexperience
Her first theatre experience with BFF Cate Chan was Egg and Spoon by Lyngo Theatre Company. Next up: Treasured Stories by Eric Carle: A Bear, A Moon and A Caterpillar . Even though the e-flyer indicates it to be suitable for children from ages 3 to 6, I felt it would be fine for us to go since she already knows two out of three books.
